Lust can be used as a coping mechanism for escaping painful realities in life. When faced with our own brokenness, difficulties, and insecurities in life, people often look for some grasp of control in a situation where we feel powerless. Women who struggle with sexual brokenness can feel particularly alone as much of the public discussion and many sermons reference only men. Sara Taras points women away from “trying harder” and “doing better” only to feel the pit of failure again and again. Women find encouragement in taking their struggle to Christ, where we all are freed by faith in the cross and where there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ. This means we all are free to run to Christ with our sin-struggles because he loves us, cares for us, and his strength is made perfect in our weakness.
